Why join the team? What’s in it for you?
Essentially the world of sports journalism is incredibly competitive and very, very difficult to break into. The barriers to entry are high, and even after all the graft and sacrifice, there is no guarantee that you will get your articles published.
The team at The 1014 Rugby believe in meritocracy above all else. To take an old sporting adage “if you’re good enough, you’re old enough”, and adapt it to the world of sports journalism; “if the article is good enough, it will be published”. To this end, if you have a great on-topic story or an ability to articulate acute analysis that will promote debate you should send us through your work. Experience counts for a lot in the traditional world but we will happily break down that barrier and publish quality content, who knows, you might have a viral article just waiting to burst out.
To help increase the speed to market and the quality of content we have put together a Playbook, which can be found here. The 1014 Rugby Playbook provides a lot of useful insights into creating content for the new media landscape. If you are interested in providing content then please read The Playbook, it covers what The 1014 Rugby is looking for, and more importantly, how to go about producing quality, shareable content for a mobile world.
Writers who continually submit work of a high, desirable quality will be considered for auto-publishing rights while full-time employment at The 1014 Rugby is a very real possibility as we begin to expand. There will be roles in various fields.
If you’d like to get published on The 1014 Rugby then fill out the “Join the team” form at the bottom of the page and we will get back to you ASAP.
Before submitting there are a few things to consider:
- First and foremost, the article must be yours, and yours alone. We will not tolerate plagiarism. Furthermore, it must not only be yours, it must not be published anywhere else.
- Your article needs to be between 350 and 500 words.
- It must adhere to the five values of World Rugby. If you need to get passionate, do so, but be respectful.
