It looks like Sonny Bill will be back on a rugby union field in the not too distant future.
It’s been a while! It’s no secret that Steve Hansen is a fan and the All Black midfield has yet to be cast in stone following the loss of both Conrad Smith and Ma’a Nonu.
Sonny Bill has stepped in and out of rugby union and he has proved that he can settle in quickly. Now though, it’s different; he will be a senior player and an experienced Rugby World Cup winner. He has yet to play for the Blues and team up with his great mentor Tana Umaga. Remember, it was Tana that helped Sonny Bill transition to rugby union in the controversial mid-season exit from the NRL in 2008. With Tana’s guidance, this could be the dawning of an even better Sonny Bill era. It’s now time for Sonny Bill to take it up a notch and take his place amongst the all-time great All Blacks.
On a side note, now that Sonny Bill is a senior international player, how about pairing him up with a young buck? Imagine a Sonny Bill and Jordie Barrett 12 and 13 combo against The British & Irish Lions in June. Go on, just imagine it! Huge speed, huge size, huge offloads and no video analysis of the pair together. It would be special if it clicked.
