ABOUT US

Our Story

The 1014 Rugby

Mutual friends introduced Irishman Gareth Dinneen and Kiwi Steven Prescott. They clicked. A shared passion for sport, frustration with sports content, and how it engaged fans helped form a connection. They wanted to do something about it. Something different.

Sports fans needed to be respected more, less opinion, more insight, less banter, and more relevant analysis. So they quit their jobs in Movie VFX and Banking IT and launched The 1014 Rugby on Youtube, it was 2017, and the British & Irish Lions were touring New Zealand. Their innovative approach melded storytelling techniques and graphics from Gareth’s movie expertise with Steven’s process-driven data analysis from the banking world.

Sky Sport, New Zealand’s pay-TV sports broadcaster, came calling and offered the lads their own TV show. The 1014 developed a way of analysing content data to create repeatable engagement for Radio Sport, Stuff.co.nz, and Spark Sport, New Zealand’s official Rugby World Cup 2019 broadcaster. Then everything changed.

TEN14

Dr. Gabe Redding got in touch with a different way of looking at sports data and analysis. His work in artificial intelligence and computational modeling had been used to find solutions to complex problems in various industries. But what excited Gabe most was that he deciphered a way to thread these solutions into sport.

Privately, Gabe had spent the past 10 years building and refining an intricate Full Sports Modelling Engine, where digital athletes make life-like decisions in groups and form teams that contest one another. Gabe had been looking for a way to amplify his work. He contacted The 1014 Rugby and TEN14 was born.

Gabe, Steven, and Gareth started to combine their science, engineering, and design backgrounds to explore sports data and fan engagement differently. As a result, TEN14 technology now has a pathway to bring its way to Rugby, American Football, Soccer, Basketball, and more.

We now have a board, an advisory board, and a team of magically diverse people who are super smart and passionate about sport. TEN14 was founded on collaboration, combining different ways of thinking. We celebrate the individual’s expression and flare while forming a fluid team with others.

Cain Redding

Software Engineer

Cain comes from Napier in New Zealand and has spent his entire career exploring how creative technology can fuse with sport. This sporting obsession is diverse and started young, firstly American Football, then Rugby League, Ice Hockey, and finally Rugby Union. However, Cain's focus has always been beyond just being a spectator but rather on how to use technology to make a deeper connection to these 'world sports' from an isolated New Zealand. This focus led Cain to develop a critically acclaimed PC-based Rugby Union game with his brother Gabe. Cain brings this passion for technology and sports connection to software engineering.
