Six Nations Week 1 Preview from The 1014 Rugby
The 1014 Rugby run through the selections, look at what they might bring and discuss expectations. There is also discussion on two sets of statements that need to be considered when looking at the Six Nations.
- Nigel Owens’ comments on what referees are looking for.
- Johnny Sexton’s comments about what Test rugby is all about.
Nigel Owens’ comments
Nigel Owens has outlined what the referees will be looking at in the Six Nations. These comments are worth noting down as it will enable you to possibly understand some of the decisions the referees make. It should be noted that these are not law changes, just how the laws may be interpreted.
Johnny Sexton’s comments
Wales v Scotland
With 10 Welsh players unavailable Gatland has selected a team heavey on Scarlets players. It will be interesting to see how they gel.
Townsend has gone for a fairly understandable team, particularly given his injury concerns. The one stand out is Chris Harris coming into the starting XV.
France v Ireland
France have made a huge number of changes from their last Six Nations match, which is not really unsurprising given the new coaching setup. And their performances in November.
Ireland’s team looks settled and as expected from a Joe Schmidt selection.
Italy v England
No teams announced at the time of shooting.
